Deodars is an exclusive guest house, nestling on a hill slope 4 km north of Almora, facing the magnificent Trishul, Nanda Devi and Panchachuli peaks of the Kumaon Himalayas. The entrance hall with its gracious wood-panelled ceiling and hunting trophies along the walls takes you back to the days of Jim Corbett. Every nook of the colonnaded verandah commands exquisite views of the Himalayas and the valley below. Have breakfast or tea on our elegant wooden swings, with the silence and unobtrusive service broken only by melodious bird-song.
Spend the day relaxing under the majestic old cedars that give the place its name, or go exploring where your fancy takes you along the numerous trails that lead you into the forests, villages and ferny ravines below. The forests surrounding Deodars are a bird-watcher's paradise, and we can also arrange treks, walks, and sight-seeing excursions with experienced and affable guides.
The house has three double bedrooms with attached bathrooms and running hot and cold water. It has a motorable road leading right up to it, and yet has the total seclusion of a perfect getaway. Evenings are cozy around the stone fireplace in the living room, where you can sit by a roaring pinewood fire while you browse our book collection (many of them written by guests who have stayed at Deodars), play Scrabble, or catch up on old times. The house is supplied with purified fresh spring water at all times. Fresh, delicious, and wholesome Indian and Continental cuisine are included in the room rate, but you are welcome to try out your culinary skills in our large, well-equipped kitchen. We also arrange taxis for your convenience, and can organize yoga and reflexology sessions at the house.
